Runes, FromSoftware’s version of currency and experience points (XP), are key to unlocking levels in Elden Ring – however when players die they lose any Runes they were currently holding onto.
If that happens before they can return to where they dropped them, then they are lost forever.
Godrick’s Great Rune
Many of the game’s key bosses drop Great elden ring runes, ancient artifacts which can provide temporary but potency boosts. You can acquire your first one after conquering Stormveil Castle.
Each Great Rune provides its own distinct advantage and must be “activated” at its respective Divine Tower in the Lands Between for maximum effect.
Late in a game, these runes can be an invaluable help – particularly for players attempting to keep up their Vigor levels. For instance, Godrick’s Great Rune raises your Health by 15% and increases their max health by 185 points once activated – providing a huge edge right before Mohg appears for battle in Redmane Castle. Other runes such as Rykard’s provide more situational advantages; nonetheless they remain useful assets to have around.
Malenia’s Great Rune
Great elden ring runes are unique items dropped by bosses that grant temporary buffs that grant powerful advantages to players. Before being used however, they must first be “charged up,” which happens by visiting a Divine Tower associated with their demigod originator and visiting it in order to “activate” it.
Malenia’s Great Rune, offered up by Dung Eaters in Haligtree, can be difficult to obtain; both because it requires beating one of the toughest areas of the game and because it significantly boosts healing post combat. When receiving damage, a lighter red section appears on your health bar to indicate how much healing will occur if you continue attacking enemies.
By activating this Great Rune, players will increase their health by 15%, stamina by 12.5% and focus points by 12.5%. To do this, head to Stormveil Castle in Limgrave and activate its Site of Grace; once activated, a teleporter will appear that leads directly to Isolated Divine Tower.
Crimson Flask
Healing flasks can make all the difference in Elden Ring, with players needing to replenish both their health and Focus Points (FP) on an ongoing basis. Players can increase both their usage capacity and potency of flasks through using Sacred Tears and Golden Seeds from outside sources in Elden Ring world.
Golden Seeds can be collected from enemies known as Teardrop Scarabs in the Lands Between, who don’t attack when approached but instead flee if approached too closely. By defeating these foes and defeating their bosses, defeating these foes can yield Flassons of Crimson Tears or Cerulean Tears which can then be replenished at Sites of Grace.
The Flasson of Crimson Tears can be upgraded for increased HP recovery, and its counterpart the Flasson of Cerulean Tears improved for enhanced FP recuperation. In addition, an upgrade can also provide an increase in stamina regeneration speed by upgrading the third Flask, known as Wondrous Physick.
Rune Arc
Elden ring runes Arcs present an intriguing mystery in Lands Between. While these rare consumables provide players with powerful advantages, there is no explanation provided as to their purpose or benefit in game.
Elden Ring gives players multiple methods of earning and upgrading Rune Arcs, from boss drops to taking on other players as Bloody Fingers or invading new worlds as Host of Fingers.
You can acquire them by speaking to various NPCs, such as Nomadic Merchant in Liurnia of the Lakes and Finger Reader Enia in Roundtable Hold.
Once you acquire a Great Rune, its time to visit its corresponding Divine Tower. Most are near where it was obtained; one notable exception can be found in western Consecrated Snowfields. While Great Runes offer significant perks, getting one requires going through several hoops.
